Our "warehouse" of donations!
THE BEGINNING
Combine the passion of a few people, the message being spread, and the compassion of a community and you get a successful program: The Friday Backpack Program.
Within a few months of this program beginning, the list of volunteers grew quickly. We are so fortunate to have so many businesses, service organizations, churches, and individuals embrace this endeavor with that same passion.
The goal of our program in La Grande is to end food insecurity for all children; a huge goal, an important goal and an attainable goal.
The response from our community has been overwhelming, especially given the hard economic times everyone is facing.
It is in people's spirit to give if you provide them with a cause, which we did by presenting the facts, the situation, the ramification of hunger on children.
Hungry children: not acceptable. Children worrying where their next meal is coming from is unacceptable. Undernourished or malnourished children: unacceptable. It is up to us to help those who are not in control of their situation and clearly these children are not.
They don't choose to be hungry.
